After reading this article I was super convinced and decided to click that “See Ray-Ban Meta at Amazon” at the end of it to make a purchase ;)

Me to smart glasses owners: if you point your dystopian Facebook surveillance camera to my face, I’ll punch yours.
Have we started hounding people we see walking around with this bullshit in public? You know, like back in the day when Google tried to pull this with Google Glas?
We should probably bring back the term glasshole
I’ve seen a few customers with these glasses. Unfortunately, since they’re an almighty CUSTOMER and I’m just a lowly wage slave, I can’t say or do anything.
Since these glasses were introduced, though, I’ve decided to boycott all ray-ban products, because I’m so incensed that they’re participating in this gross violation of human rights and social norms.
Ray-Ban doesn’t really exist anymore. They’re owned by the same conglomerate that owns all the other glasses brands now. Luxottica.
Whats the point of these glasses, anyway? Do people just think they are so interesting and important that they have to either record everything they do, or be ready to record everything at a moments notice? I haven’t had a picture taken of me since ~2010, so I don’t really understand these sorts of things.
They work reasonably well as an action camera, because the POV is exactly where the user’s eyes are.
Not really any excuse to wear them in daily life though.

Are you serious?
A change.org with 51 signatures? I am usually not a cynical person, but there have never been any change.org petitions that have really changed anything.
Please stop with this online activism bullshit and go out into the real world and organize and actually do something.
This “user choice” narrative falls apart when you realize the settings ship with cloud enabled by default and the terms of service are a wall of legalese nobody reads. Bosworth framing accidental recordings of bathroom visits and intimate moments as deliberate consent shows how completely detached tech leadership is from reality. Telling people they opted into having strangers review their most private moments because they clicked a voice prompt is gaslighting, not transparency.
Fuck you and your fucking ad for meta
Someone clearly did not get the joke
Yeah that was an overreaction for sure. I mean fuck meta but I’m honestly sorry for including you in my gut reaction
no worries haha just surprised to find it on the Fediverse, usually people here aren’t insulting tbh On Reddit it’s super normal haha like 100 people like what you post and 1 person write like FU I HATE YOU ;)
I’m actually the creator of: https://lemmy.world/c/DeMeta and https://www.reddit.com/r/DeMeta/ I certainly feel ya on Meta ;)) We just gotta point it in the right direction instead of fighting each other friend, let’s unite <3
I normally try to be better about that and let one slip this morning I guess. Sounded way worse in text than I meant it but it still wasn’t nice.
Agreed, thanks for understanding friend!
I also sometimes quick read and make mistakes, especially irony like this is the hardest to not misunderstand. Honestly awesome replies, not many people are willing to admit a mistake, especially not online, it’s not easy, compliment for that, really <3 Nobody is perfect, all we can do is try to do better :))
