Many presidents live in palaces and haven’t the slightest idea what the democracy is…
The meaning of jungle has shifted since the song was written. It used to encompass savannah but over the years it became a synonym for rainforest.
And ofc it still makes sense if you take the “jungle” to be a metaphor for nature in general with its complex webs of interaction and predation.
Adding on, the lion could also represent a certain hubris, or limitation, of perspective. As in– in his mind he’s tops of what he surveys, but that bull elephant a mile down the road? Not gonna mess with it. The disease-carrying mosquito or tsetse fly buzzing around? No contest there. That pack of vicious hyenas, yonder? Rarely if ever gonna mess with them, especially solo.
Kinda brings to mind the wild, never-ending battles raging in Kruger Park…
