Was shaving heads a common practice for Russian women recruits in WWI?

To my understanding, it was common for these Women’s Battalions which were raised in 1917, with the socialist-aligned provisional government of Russia, to shave their heads as a health measure. Many of these women were from disadvantaged strata, and so had to be deloused in a hurry, and preferably for cheap since Russia was damn near broke. Some also were taught basic literacy along with their crash-course in military training.
