It’s hot and raining here. So I guess we have a monsoon season now. Climate change is just great…

Today marks a week into my Lamotrigine titration following my BD2 dx. I’m writing this post because I don’t really have anyone* to talk to about my experience, both with the medications and my being dx’d in general. As far as I am aware, the amount I am taking (25mg for another week before 50mg for two weeks) is too low to have any therapeutic effect on me, and even if it wasn’t, it hasn’t been in my system long enough to do what it is meant to do yet. Some of the below info might be caused by other things, but I have never felt some of it before, and wanted to include everything for completeness sake.

Our power went out at 2:00AM this morning due to storms. Power is out across the city. I am typing this by lantern. I don’t know if I can go to work today as of right now I cannot make coffee.

Diagnosed with ADHD as a kid. Insomnia started in college and hasn’t really gone away. I discovered doxylamine works, but I recently learned that these older antihistamines increase the risk for dementia and that the effect is cumulative. Age related mental deterioration is literally my worst fear, more than just straight up dying, so I’ve been trying to quit, even though I’m sure it’s already too late since I’ve been taking them on the regular for 20 years.

I am fully aware that I shouldn’t drink alcohol while on Ritalin, however I do sometimes cook with it, so I was curious on if that’s a major problem, as the relative quantity of alcohol is much lower than when drinking it. Say for instance a sauce that’s 1/5 Sake (15% alcohol) of which you then use around 30-40ml. That’s barely any alcohol, so should I be worried and maybe not take my meds when I’m planning on making food containing alcohol, or is it fine if I just avoid beers and wines and such?

I was not raised in a socially and emotionally healthy family, but I have to imagine that there is always some social tension in a child’s life, even if they have a friend group, right?

There are noises in my house and I don’t know what is causing them, yet.

Hi, I’m feeling upset, and I’m not sure who to contact that I can talk to. I’m in a bad situation where I was involved with a summer play with an autism group where I found out today I had been removed from the play itself, not the group, over a disagreement over a single line. This is a play where they allow you to choose what character you want to be, and I ended up choosing one of the Disney Gummi Bears over something that was suggested to me a month ago.

If you know, you know. I just don’t know myself.

AITA for thinking my bestfriends actions don’t match what he’s telling me? i’m exhausted man.

Please make them stop. Why are they still legal? My neighbor has been using a mower, weed eater, and leaf blower for 5.5 hours. Nobody else ever notices the noise but my auditory sensitivities make me want to claw my skin off.

I watch late night shows in the morning. Started doing this years ago. One of those shows was Colbert. Now he’s off the air and that sucks.

I’m pretty amped. I can’t remember any other time I’ve been this excited to talk to a doctor. The more* I read about bipolar, the more I feel like a dummy for not seeing it sooner. Then I feel dumber for thinking I have it without first being diagnosed. My wife thinks the diagnosis is just a formality at this point; a foregone conclusion. I have a certain kind of luck that leads me to be more cautious, but I’m still optimistic.

Thanks to my brain for presenting this one to me on my way to work this morning.

Got woken in the middle of the night and had to go down to the basement because there was a tornado warning in the area.

I have been struggling with this because a lot of people around me use it in this manner when they do something dumb or they act in an awkward way and they’ll be like “oh, that was autistic of me” or “I’ve got the tism” and I always feel so uncomfortable but I also don’t know how to raise it or what to say. I am myself not diagnosed, but I’m pretty sure I am on the spectrum. I was just wondering what you think of it and how you handle it.

I have a “suspected diagnosis” (German: Verdachtsdiagnose) of ASD by a psychiatrist, and they forwarded me to a clinic that can perform the full diagnosis. I’ve filled out a form and been put on the waitlist, but they couldn’t give an estimate. Another clinic in my region also does autism diagnoses for adults, but their website says they have waiting times of 2–3 years 😵‍💫

I’ve been diagnosed MDD for about 16 months. Took me decades to realize I needed help just for that. Thing is, that’s just what I dared to talk with my doctor about. I had a Catch 22: I think (in addition to my ADHD) I have Bipolar 2 alongside anxiety and PTSD and need to address it. I stopped seeing the pDoc because it’s $375 each visit, no insurance accepted. I was able to get my antidepressants managed by my PCP, but not my Ritalin, so I’ve been of that for about six months. But now I needed to go back to get a diagnosis for my whole, actual condition and begin sorting out a treatment plan.

I had been working really hard to plan my medical leave but whoops I couldn’t stop crying last night so I decided I probably shouldn’t go to work today so I guess it’s starting early.

In a later post ( https://piefed.blahaj.zone/c/mentalhealth@lemmy.world/p/778598/continued-post-i-took-your-advice ), I went on saying that I had taken your advice and asked a person out for a cup of coffee. Today, I met with that person. This is that story. *Law and Order sound*

One of my children is heavily autistic and nonverbal at 6. He had constipation issues before which made him fearful of going #2. He trained himself to just never have a bowel movement, so he soils his diapers all day (his bowls are full and it’s the natural progression out). It concerns me because he’s continuously backed up and that’s not good for his long term health.

Can anyone suggest any YouTubers that talk about health and/or ageing? Bonus points for creators that debunk myths about chiropractors, vaccines, and other topics like that. Thank you!

I experience something similar to an impulse buy, where I see a product on the shelf and immediately want it, except usually I don’t actually buy it and then walk out of the store without it and forget I ever wanted it. Anyone else do that?

Yesterday was an off day. Everything I needed to do was derailed by things I considered less important but have no say in. I hope today is better.
